Introducing 4D Systems' Workshop4 IDE
Supports multiple development environments, to cater for different user requirements and skill level.
Workshop4 is a comprehensive software IDE for Microsoft Windows that provides an integrated software development platform for all of the 4D family of processors and modules. The IDE combines the Editor, Compiler, Linker and Downloader to develop complete 4DGL application code. All user application code is developed within the Workshop4 IDE.
Workshop4 includes four development environments, for the user to choose based on application requirements or even user skill level.
This environment enables the
user to write 4DGL code in its
natural form to program the
ViSi - Genie
An advanced environment
that doesn't require any
4DGL coding at all, it is all
done automatically for you.
Simply lay the display out
with the objects you want
(similar to ViSi), set the
events to drive them and
the code is written for
you automatically. ViSi-
Genie provides the latest
A visual programming
experience that enables
placement of objects to
assist with 4DGL code
generation and allows
the user to visualise how
the display will look while
This environment is also
provided to transform the
display module into a
slave serial display module,
allowing the user to control
the display from any host
microcontroller or device
with a serial port.
Workshop4 brings four programming environments to the user, and ViSi-Genie is the latest breakthrough, offering a 'codeless' style of display configuration/programming (Available on Picaso & Diablo16 only)
Ease of Use
Workshop4 has been upgraded with a completely new look and feel, with logical sequence of steps to start new projects, along with clean programming environments
A brand new Serial Environment has been created, allowing 4D System modules to be loaded with a Serial Application, allowing the module to be transformed into a Serial Slave to virtually any serial Host.
All new documentation has been produced for the new and current 4D System modules and Software. Documents are up to date, clean and easy to use.
Workshop4 features a Ribbon at the top, allowing multiple buttons to be present in the IDE without clutter, and allowing them to be logically grouped.
Workshop4 projects can be easily zipped up and transported to another PC or via Email, using the new Zip Project feature, saving the hassle of hunting out the files in Windows Explorer.
Workshop4 has undergone many changes and upgrades including the release of the Workshop4 PRO License, which unlocks many new features for the ViSi-Genie environment in Workshop4, and continues to be developed with new features being added all the time.
Workshop4 Pro offers additional and specialised features for ViSi-Genie, which has an encompassing title of Genie Magic. Genie Magic brings the ability to add standard 4DGL code to various points within the ViSi-Genie environment. This enables you to have all the advantages of ViSi-Genie but with the new ability to add extra 4DGL where you want it. If a feature was previously unavailable in standard ViSi-Genie but was possible in Designer or ViSi, then Workshop4 PRO is the simple answer, making the most powerful yet easy to use environment we offer. These features are available to be unlocked by purchasing a License for Workshop4 PRO, from the Buy Now section at the bottom of this page.
A seven-day trial of Workshop4 PRO features is available by clicking on the 'Start PRO Trial' button in the Options Menu under the License tab in Workshop4 PRO. This will allow you to evaluate Workshop4 PRO unhindered for 7 different days of use - they do not have to be consecutive.
With the aid of Workshop4 PRO, ViSi-Genie is an incredible environment to work with, giving many options to the User which extended ViSi-Genie beyond the Host Dependent platform it once was.
Workshop4 PRO is an OPTIONAL upgrade to unlock advanced features. Workshop4 is still FREE to download and use, however, the PRO features requires a paid license to unlock the additional features.
The Workshop4 PRO License is for One (1) computer only.
Workshop4 is a Windows Only product.
It is compatible with Windows XP through to Windows 10.
Note some older OS's such as ME and Vista have not been tested for some time due to availability, however should still work. Obviously Windows 7+ is ideal.
It is possible to run Workshop4 under a VM on Linux or Mac, however it is up to the User to set this up.
